Everton’s new and old football stadiums will bring investment to Liverpool

The detailed planning application for the new Everton Stadium has been submitted, and an application for Goodison Park is set to follow.

Everton Football Club recently submitted a planning application for a new 52,000-seat stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock. Overlooking the River Mersey to the north of the city centre, the proposed stadium is set to be located near the £5.5bn Liverpool Waters regeneration scheme.

The planning submission followed an extensive three-year public consultation, which revealed overwhelming support for the continuation of the project and the stadium design. Having been advised by CBRE UK Planning & Development, Everton worked closely with the Liverpool City Council’s Planning Authority and Historic England to mould the application and to make sure the necessary information and details were included.

Now, the council will take time to process and review the application, and a formal consultation period will begin in due course. The stadium is estimated to cost £500m to construct, and Everton hopes to move in by 2023.

If granted planning permission, the new stadium could play an important part in the exciting Liverpool Waters scheme, which is redefining the city’s northern docklands area and bringing forward high-specification residential apartments, investment opportunities and business, entertainment and leisure spaces.

The potential of regenerating Goodison Park

If the new stadium proposals are granted permission, an outline planning application for Goodison Park is set to follow. The proposals are expected to be for a community-led project including high-quality, affordable housing, leisure and retail spaces, a multi-purpose health centre and a young enterprise zone.

As the home of Everton since 1892, Goodison Park is located in Walton, which is a largely residential area and is a prime location for first-time buyers and young professionals. This part of North Liverpool has seen much regeneration, and the conversion of Goodison Park could further transform this area of the city and provide new residential properties in an attractive location.

Boosting the city of Liverpool

Together, the two proposals have the potential to create new homes and jobs, boost the local economy and regenerate different areas of Liverpool. Over the coming years, the city is set to see a significant amount of growth and investment, and Everton Football Club can play a significant part. These types of developments will make Liverpool an even more exciting to live, work and invest in.
