A new 76 home in West London will showcase a new landing area for drone deliveries in June 2019, designed by architect Farrells.
The developer Almacantar is aiming to invest in technology to create the first residential housing site in London to be able to handle deliveries by drone. Skyports, a drone infrastructure company, will be responsible for coordinating the deliveries.
Kathrin Hersel, Properties director at Almacantar said: “Partnering with Skyports, with the intention of Lyons Place being London’s first residential development to accept commercial drone deliveries, makes perfect sense as we’re always looking for ways to future-proof our developments.”
Residents will take delivery direct from drones
Skyports has agreed to lease the space from the developer for the platform known as a vertiport and will operate and maintain the landing area, which will be located in the centre of the roof of the main housing block at Lyons Place.
Ade Awoye, Senior architect at Farrells said: “Residents at Lyons Place will be able to order anything online to then be delivered by a drone landing on the roof. The concierge is then notified of the parcels arrival and collects the item to be hand delivered to the resident’s door.”
Drone ports will become a standard requirement for residential developments
The architect, Farrells believes that drone ports will become a future requirement for urban residential developments to meet the desire from city dwellers to be connected with the city.
Ade Awoye from Farrells said: ““This is a new level of connectivity within the urban city. We believe this will become a standard requirement in the near future. We recognise a need to adapt technological trends and the increase in consumer goods purchasing that is starting to shape the urban cities where we live.”
