The 2019 Which? mortgage review has named Nationwide as the UK’s best mortgage provider, with 93% of its customers saying they are satisfied.
The annual review asks thousands of UK mortgage holders to rate lenders on their application process, complaints handling, online access and more. Which? experts then analyse the mortgage deals available from each lender to see which combine excellent customer service with the best deals on the market.
This year, three lenders earned the title of Which? Recommended Mortgage Provider: Nationwide, Principality and Coventry Building Society. Nationwide took the first spot with a customer score of 79% and Principality and Coventry tied in second place, each scoring 76%.
Five star service
Nationwide and Principality were the only two lenders to receive five stars for customer service. Nationwide customers described its customer service as polite, friendly and professional and it received praise for its online remortgaging service, too. Principality also received five-star ratings for the way it handles complaints and queries and for its clear mortgage statements. Nine out of 10 Coventry customers rated the lender as good at keeping them informed about their mortgage.
The top three lenders were closely followed by Skipton Building Society with a customer score of 74%, Metro Bank at 73% and First Direct at 72%, while Kensington and Aldermore were among the lowest-ranked mortgage lenders this year.
