Non-stop flights between Manchester and Shanghai will start in March 2020, and it’s expected to boost the city’s economy, property market and tourism.
Chinese carrier Juneyao Air has announced it will start a new direct service between Manchester and Shanghai in spring next year. This is the airline’s first ever UK service and will operate three times a week.
Shanghai is the biggest city in China and is a top economic powerhouse. The launch of these flights will further connect Manchester and the wider region to Asia and the Far East. The new direct flight is forecast to unlock hundreds of millions of pounds of benefits in investment, trade and tourism.
Andrew Cowan, CEO of Manchester Airport, stated: “This news underlines the critical role Manchester Airport plays in connecting people and businesses across the north to the world’s most important markets.”
“We have seen first-hand how new routes to high-growth economies can unlock significant trade, cultural and knowledge exchange opportunities and this will be no different.”
More overseas investment
China and India air links have previously resulted in a surge of interest in Manchester, making it easier for potential investors, tourists and students to reach the city. This north-western city has also seen more investment from Asia and the Far East over recent years, and the new flight service is expected to encourage even further growth.
Manchester is becoming an ever more attractive city to live and invest in. Better connectivity to other parts of the world will boost the city’s already thriving property market, economy and tourism sector. And the new direct flight to Shanghai could attract more businesses and people to the city.
