England’s infrastructure gets a boost from £142 million Government funding

Housing Minister and MP Kit Malthouse has announced that the Government will be investing £142 million across England with the intention of building new homes and improving and upgrading roads and utility services.

Woking and Truro will receive millions for new housing and roads

Both the South East and the South West are to benefit from this seasonal windfall, having been assessed under a competitive funding allocation process.

In this latest release of funding, Surrey county council’s commuter town of Woking will received £95 million worth of government finance to create a viable infrastructure to support the purchase of suitable land to build 4,500 new homes and alleviate local congestion.

This will include widening Woking’s Victoria Arch bridge, improving the surrounding road network, land acquisition and installing mains services and providing utilities.

Truro in Cornwall will receive £47 million to improve road links

The creation of a new northern access road linking the employment centre in the east and the Royal Cornwall hospital with sites in the west from the A390, will allow for the construction of 4,000 new homes

Kit Malthouse said: “This new funding is part of the government’s drive to hit its target of building 300,000 new homes a year in England by the mid 2020s.

We are pushing to create homes, opportunities and thriving communities. We need to keep upping our game and build more, better, faster, if we are to meet our ambition. The funding comes from the Government’s £5.5 billion Housing Infrastructure Fund so that land can be made ready for development.”
