Old Trafford Manchester

Trafford regeneration plans revealed

Plans have been unveiled detailing a major regeneration project in the Trafford area of Manchester.

Trafford Council is working with developer Bruntwood on a number of schemes in the borough that will boost retail, leisure, education and housing while tapping into the area’s two legendary sporting arenas.

It’s another boost for the Manchester property scene, with the city recently named as one of Europe’s leading property hotspots and the focus of much interest from investment and interest from China.

New housing is slated to be built on the site of the former B & Q store. The area around Warwick, Chester and Talbot Roads would become a ‘town hall quarter’, an improved public space with a new civic plaza linking Lancashire County Cricket Club’s Emirates Old Trafford home with the town hall.

Leisure and educational opportunities

It is proposed that some of LCCC’s pitches would be opened to the public, and there would be a new leisure centre on Great Stone Road.

A new ‘campus quarter’ will be based in the former Kellogg’s Building next to LCCC, hosting UA92, the sports and media university involving Bruntwood, Trafford Council, Microsoft and former Manchester United captain Gary Neville.

The White City retail park will also be redeveloped, and pedestrian access to the site will also be improved with an upgraded route from Talbot Road. Transport links to the area will also improve with a new tram stop near United’s Old Trafford stadium to be built as part of the extension to the tram network currently under construction.

The proposals are due to go before Trafford Council’s executive by the end of October before going out to public consultation.
