‘Open Doors week’ is an initiative giving access to live sites set up by Build UK and the CITB.
Now a popular annual event – this year’s began on the 18th March and is running until the 24th March 2019.
Already the 2019 event has already achieved a record number of bookings with more than 5,200 site bookings across over 275 construction sites in England, Wales and Scotland.
The aim behind organising this event was to encourage people to take a look at behind the scenes of a construction site from residential developments to schools and office sites. The initiative has been part of a much needed education and awareness programme to promote the diverse range of skills and professions required on a construction site.
With Brexit uncertainty around European workers, the construction industry is on a positive recruitment drive to inspire people to consider a career in construction which is expanding across the UK.
Developers from all over the country are opening their doors to the public to see firsthand what work is involved in creating a residential developments from north to south.
The Slate Yard residential development in Salford has been developed by English Cities Fund, which is a joint venture set up by three partners – Homes England, Legal & General and Muse Developments.
Plot A7 of Phase 3 at Slate Yard on the border of Manchester city centre is showcasing the development that comprises 199 flats over 20 upper floors with a main entrance area, residents’ lounge, gym and cycle storage all at ground level.
This weekend it will be demonstrating various activities to visitors booked on the tour, including: the erection of the concrete frame, external facade works and internal first fix partitions.
