One of UK’s largest brownfield regeneration projects announced for Cambridge Northern Fringe East

One of the most significant regeneration projects in the UK on a brownfield site has been announced this month, in the push to identify more much needed brownfield sites to combat the national housing shortage. 

The 120 acre site in Cambridge Northern Fringe East is currently utilised by Anglian Water as a waste water recycling centre, however plans are underway to relocate this operation.   

The site developer, U + 1 is expected to construct in the region of 5,200 new homes and transform the land into a mixed use development.  The intention is to provide a maximum of 1 million square feet of commercial, retail and leisure space.  The positive impact of this major regeneration work will be to create more than 7,000 new jobs, attract more business into the area and boost the local economy. 

Carter Jonas has been appointed lead planning consultant on what will be one of the largest regeneration projects in the UK.
