A draft of how this will work is expected to be published later in the year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Organisations across the UK\u2019s property sector have voiced different opinions with regards to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2018\/03\/26\/landlords-save-money-self-managing-online-agents\/\">success of the ban<\/a>. Some, like housing charity Shelter, expect the ban to help make the market more fair whilst other, like the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA), warned that fees might be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2018\/02\/16\/most-landlords-agents-prefer-cut-out-middle-man\/\">passed on to tenants<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"uVvY2xNUJg\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/06\/22\/queens-speech-no-letting-fees\/\">The Queen\u2019s Speech: No more letting fees!<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;The Queen\u2019s Speech: No more letting fees!&#8221; &#8212; BuyAssociation Group\" src=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/06\/22\/queens-speech-no-letting-fees\/embed\/#?secret=xgkkvpywzt#?secret=uVvY2xNUJg\" data-secret=\"uVvY2xNUJg\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>When looking at the history of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2018\/01\/23\/self-managed-vs-letting-agent-landlords-decide-fees-ban\/\">tenant fees<\/a>, fact is that median letting agent fees have increased by 60% in the five years after 2009, City AM reports.<\/p>\n<p>These fees seem to be fairly detached from the costs they are meant to be covering, as online credit test are easily done online and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2018\/04\/04\/leaseholders-and-renters-to-benefit-from-new-code-of-practice\/\">standard lease agreements<\/a> can simply be printed off.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, fees are probably pushed up by letting agents as they know that renters are desperate to secure a home and won\u2019t speak up anyway.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So how much more expensive will rents actually be?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ARLA commissioned a Capital Economics report which revealed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/12\/22\/will-landlords-ditch-letting-agents-tax-cuts\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">only 41% of landlords assume they will have to pass fee increases on to their tenants<\/a>. Furthermore, the research says they will push rents up by \u00a3103 a year. Across all of Britain\u2019s landlords, this suggests an annual increase of $42 &#8211; or 81p every week.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/05\/05\/public-opinion-divided-tenant-fees\/<\/p>\n<p>The average rental tenure in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/06\/13\/private-rented-sector-forecast-grow-24-2021\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">private rented accommodation<\/a> currently lies at 18 months. So even if rents increased by \u00a342 every year, after 18 months of renting, tenants would still be \u00a3200 better off.<\/p>\n<p>Only once a tenant remain in the same property for more than six years they would start to pay more.
