{"id":2609,"date":"2017-04-12T12:00:46","date_gmt":"2017-04-12T11:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.buyassociation.co.uk\/?p=2609"},"modified":"2017-04-12T12:00:46","modified_gmt":"2017-04-12T11:00:46","slug":"uk-house-prices-least-affordable-regions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/zh-hk\/2017\/04\/12\/uk-house-prices-least-affordable-regions\/","title":{"rendered":"UK house prices: What are the most and least affordable regions?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>House prices across Britain vary drastically and, as a new study has revealed, in some areas a house will cost you 14 times your salary.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>loveMoney has analysed figures by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and found that Northern Ireland is the UK\u2019s cheapest place to buy a home whilst a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/03\/20\/owns-london-probably-not-think\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">home in London will cost you the most<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"mhxXow0exC\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/02\/24\/uk-property-brownfield-land-values-rise\/\">UK Property: Brownfield Land Values Rise<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;UK Property: Brownfield Land Values Rise&#8221; &#8212; BuyAssociation Group\" src=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/02\/24\/uk-property-brownfield-land-values-rise\/embed\/#?secret=GMbBx8lugN#?secret=mhxXow0exC\" data-secret=\"mhxXow0exC\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The study analysed ONS figures of average salaries in every region across the UK and measured them against the same region\u2019s average house price.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/02\/06\/lack-affordable-homes-stay\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">house price affordability<\/a> was then calculated by dividing average house prices by the average annual salary to receive an affordability value.<\/p>\n<p>Northern Ireland was named the most affordable place to buy a home with the average salary accounting for 20.76% of the average house price. Second on the list was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/01\/26\/property-investment-england-focus-east-england\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">England\u2019s East<\/a>, where the average salary covers 20.55% of the average house price. Next on the list was Scotland with an affordability ratio of 19.45%.<\/p>\n<p>London, probably not very surprisingly, remained the least affordable region to live in the UK. On average, an annual salary will only cover 7.14% of the property price in the capital. Which, in other words, means it would require <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/12\/06\/london-home-almost-one-fifth-uks-generation-rent\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">14 annual salaries to purchase an average home in London<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"cxDkY5RxrP\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/03\/20\/home-buyers-pay-7-6-times-earnings-house\/\">Home buyers pay 7.6 times their earnings for a house<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Home buyers pay 7.6 times their earnings for a house&#8221; &#8212; BuyAssociation Group\" src=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/03\/20\/home-buyers-pay-7-6-times-earnings-house\/embed\/#?secret=qHZKNosvoF#?secret=cxDkY5RxrP\" data-secret=\"cxDkY5RxrP\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/03\/12\/property-investment-england-focus-north-west\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">North West<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/03\/02\/property-investment-england-focus-west-midlands\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">West Midlands<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/03\/09\/property-investment-england-focus-yorkshire-humber\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Yorkshire and the Humber<\/a> all sit firmly in the middle with affordability between 17% and 14%, making the areas almost twice as affordable as London.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Homes are out of financial reach for families<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The growing gap <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/03\/24\/city-living-costs-continue-rise\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">between house prices and salaries<\/a> reveals how home ownership is moving further out of reach for many families across the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Graeme Brown, interim chief executive at housing charity Shelter, says: \u201cThis is because the enormous cost of land means developers make big compromises on the quality and affordability of the homes they build, to ensure they make their money back.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;While it suits landowners and land traders fine, ordinary families pay the price. Nothing is going to change until the government calls time on this rigged system.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Whether and how the Government can help improve the situation still remains to be seen.
