Kit Malthouse,\u00a0Housing Minister\u00a0has announced this week\u00a0that\u00a0around \u00a38.5 million will be released by\u00a0the Government\u00a0to help fund a new pilot affordable housing scheme across local communities.<\/p>\n

Funding and support for\u00a0community led\u00a0volunteer groups<\/h3>\n

From now, volunteer groups will be entitled to make an application for\u00a0between \u00a310,000 and \u00a350,000\u00a0to enable them to identify potential development sites, obtain technical advice and planning permission via\u00a0locally led neighbourhood plans.<\/p>\n

The pilot scheme is to be run over a\u00a0three year\u00a0trial period and is targeted at creating reduced price housing for families and young people in need of local housing.<\/h3>\n

Kit Malthouse said: \u201cThis\u00a0funding is on top of the \u00a326 million already available to help get neighbourhood plans over the line, which act as powerful tools for communities to be involved in the planning of their local area, providing different housing types for those who need new homes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Government minister added: \u201cI fully support\u00a0volunteers who are passionate about building more of the homes we need in their communities.\u00a0I want to see far more people getting involved across England.\u201d<\/p>\n

In\u00a0parts of the country\u00a0where property prices are high, the demand for discounted properties built at affordable prices, enables local people to secure mortgage lending which without price cuts would be unachievable.<\/p>\n

Property discounts enable locals to stay at home<\/h3>\n

For example, a\u00a0three bed\u00a0home from the Cornwall Community Land Trust was recently sold\u00a0to local buyers\u00a0at\u00a0a discounted asking price of\u00a0\u00a3160,000, compared to an average property price in the county of\u00a0more than\u00a0\u00a3230,000.<\/p>\n

This latest government funding is part of the wider investment plan to deliver a target of 300,000 new build homes by the mid 2020\u2019s.<\/p>\n
