Data show that borrowers who opted for a two-year fixed rate mortgage in 2017, when the average interest rate was 2.30%<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0could see their interest rate more than double if they revert to the average standard variable rate of 4.89% at the end of their term.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Fixed-terms ending in October 2019 will see\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">highest increase<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">All b<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">orrowers coming out of a fixed-term of two or more years\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in 2019,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">will be keen to avoid a significant hike in their monthly mortgage payments. Moneyfacts data suggests the impact w<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ill<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0be even more\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">costly\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">for those that borrowed in October 2017, when the average t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">wo<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">-year fixed rate mortgage rate fell to a record low of 2.20%.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Borrowers that fail to remortgage when their term ends this\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">October\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">will<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0revert to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ir lenders<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0SVR\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2013 the current\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">average<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0SVR is\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">4.69%. For a repayment mortgage of \u00a3250,000, on a fixed-rate of 2.20% until October 2019, reverting to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0SVR could increase their mortgage payments by \u00a34,336.20 per year.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Remortgaging\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">will<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0save borrowers thousands\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Savvy borrowers will\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">avoid sitting on their lenders SVR for even one month<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">save themselves thousands by looking at their options well in advance of their fixed rate ending.
