Telegraph Property<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>used data from Ordnance Survey and Savills to\u00a0<\/span>find out the number of\u00a0<\/span>gardens<\/span><\/a>, parks,\u00a0<\/span>play<\/span>\u00a0areas, and other green public spaces in\u00a0<\/span>UK cities. This research\u00a0<\/span>helped<\/span>\u00a0determine\u00a0<\/span>what<\/span>\u00a0cities<\/span>, besides London,\u00a0<\/span>have<\/span>\u00a0the most green space<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Leafy<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>cities<\/span><\/b>\u00a0with\u00a0<\/span><\/b>green\u00a0<\/span><\/b>parks, gardens, and play areas<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Despite urban expansion in UK cities<\/span>, there are still many lush\u00a0<\/span>pockets,<\/span>\u00a0even in\u00a0<\/span>large\u00a0<\/span>cities.<\/span>\u00a0Nottingham boasts\u00a0<\/span>the most leafiness with\u00a0<\/span>18.5% of the city\u2019s area covered in green space.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following close behind,\u00a0<\/span>Birmingham<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>has 367 play areas, 115 parks, and other public green spaces<\/span>\u00a0covering 17.8% of the city<\/span>. Many\u00a0<\/span>may<\/span>\u00a0find that surprising as\u00a0<\/span>it\u00a0<\/span>was once a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>manufacturing powerhouse, however, the city\u00a0<\/span>has numerous\u00a0<\/span>scenic areas, including\u00a0<\/span>leafy neighbourhoods\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>an impressive\u00a0<\/span>canal network<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With 17.3% of the city considered to be green,\u00a0<\/span>Glasgow<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is the UK\u2019s third leafiest city outside of London<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Manchester<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>is next\u00a0<\/span>with<\/span>\u00a016.9%<\/span>. Often<\/span>\u00a0remembered for its industrial heritage and factory chimneys<\/span>, many don\u2019t realise\u00a0<\/span>the city<\/span>\u00a0boasts<\/span>\u00a0662 parks and green\u00a0<\/span>areas<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Th<\/span>is<\/span>\u00a0research shows<\/span>\u00a0Britons don\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0necessarily<\/span>\u00a0need to live in rural areas to be surrounded by green\u00a0<\/span>space<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0There are numerous\u00a0<\/span>green<\/span>\u00a0pockets found within some of the UK\u2019s most densely populated cities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The benefits of living\u00a0<\/span><\/b>amongst green space<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

A recent study at Aarhus University, located in Denmark, revealed the psychological benefits of living amongst green surroundings were the same for<\/span>\u00a0both<\/span>\u00a0those living in rural areas and those in green areas within cities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, it was found that children raised in areas that have restricted access to nature\u00a0<\/span>were<\/span>\u00a0up to 55% more likely to suffer from mental health disorders<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>than those in greener areas.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Living near green space can\u00a0<\/span>greatly increase<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>happiness<\/span>, and many UK cities provide<\/span>\u00a0quality access to leafy surroundings with<\/span>\u00a0a wide range of<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>play areas, parks, and gardens.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
