Channel 4 is in the process of leasing space in the historic Majestic building in the heart of Leeds city centre.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

In October 2018,\u00a0<\/span>Cha<\/span>n<\/span>nel 4<\/span><\/a>\u00a0announced\u00a0<\/span>Leeds beat out Manchester and\u00a0<\/span>Bir<\/span>m<\/span>ingham<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for the company\u2019s new\u00a0<\/span>Creative Hubs alongside Glasgow and Bristol.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A histori<\/span><\/b>c<\/span><\/b>\u00a0setting<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Now, the<\/span>\u00a0broadcaster is looking to lease more than 25,000 square feet of space on the third, fourth, and fifth floors of the\u00a0<\/span>Majestic, which originally opened in 1922 as a cinema, restaurant, and ballroom.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Conveniently l<\/span>ocated opposite the\u00a0<\/span>Leeds Railway<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Station<\/span>\u00a0and overlooking the City Square, the\u00a0<\/span>landmark\u00a0<\/span>building<\/span>\u00a0has most recently been a nightclub<\/span>\u00a0and was devastated by a fire in 2014.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>It\u2019s currently<\/span>\u00a0undergoing a major redevelopment<\/span>\u00a0to restore the Grade II listed building to its former glory.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jonathan Allan, the chief commercial office<\/span>r<\/span>\u00a0for Channel 4, stated: \u201c<\/span>Leed<\/span>s<\/span><\/a>\u00a0offered a wealth of potential locations for our National HQ but the Majestic really stood out as an iconic building which will put Channel 4 at the heart of the city centre. It\u2019s an incredibly impressive redevelopment and offers the right mix of location,\u00a0<\/span>connectiv<\/span>i<\/span>ty<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and space for our organisation and great facilities for our staff and our partners in the industry.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A digital and creative hub<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>Channel<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>4\u00a0<\/span>office\u00a0<\/span>in Leeds\u00a0<\/span>will be home to a range of roles, in addition to being a major hub for Channel 4 News. The national broadcaster is expected to move into the Majestic in the second half of 2020.\u00a0<\/span>In the meantime,\u00a0<\/span>the company\u00a0<\/span>is planning to\u00a0<\/span>leas<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0space in Bruntwood\u2019s Platform building in the city centre from May. Then,\u00a0<\/span>Channel 4\u00a0<\/span>will\u00a0<\/span>temporarily\u00a0<\/span>move to a bigger space in\u00a0<\/span>Bruntwood\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>West Gate development located on Grace Street in September, when the company\u00a0<\/span>starts\u00a0<\/span>moving staff there.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are already seeing hugely positive effects since the announcement of their headquarters, as companies within the sector see Leeds in a new light and look to put down their own roots,\u201d Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council commented. \u201cWe look forward to welcoming Channel 4 staff to the city later in the year, and\u00a0<\/span>continuing to\u00a0<\/span>s<\/span>ee growth<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in this already flourishing sector and beyond.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Leeds is quickly becoming more and more of a digital and creative hub. It\u2019s already home to major operations for NHS Digital and Sky Gaming<\/span>, and more companies are likely to follow suit.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
