A recent\u00a0report\u00a0by Centre for Cities, an independent think-tank,\u00a0revealed stats on migration to and from\u00a0Manchester. The data showed\u00a0young\u00a0populations<\/a>\u00a0are dominating the influx of people moving to\u00a0the city.<\/p>\n Between 2009 and 2017, over 19,000 16-to 21-year-olds moved\u00a0to Manchester, according to data from ONS. The largest inflows came from London and the south-east.\u00a0Manchester also\u00a0saw\u00a0net inflows of 22-to 30-year-olds, mainly degree holders from the north-west and Yorkshire.<\/p>\n Over half of graduates\u00a0of\u00a0Manchester<\/a>\u00a0universities stay to work in the city post-graduation, which is\u00a0one of\u00a0the highest\u00a0retention rates\u00a0in the UK.\u00a0Additionally, the\u00a0majority of those who\u00a0leave\u00a0Manchester to go to university elsewhere return on graduation.<\/p>\n Manchester is gaining more graduates than it loses.\u00a0Graduates are\u00a0staying even though the average graduate salary is lower than in\u00a0many\u00a0other cities.\u00a0This shows wages aren\u2019t a top priority for\u00a0many\u00a0graduates. Career progression\u00a0is\u00a0often prioritised higher.<\/p>\n As an extremely\u00a0appealing\u00a0city for students and young professionals, Manchester continues to boast a large population of young people. The city boasts\u00a0a\u00a0range\u00a0of\u00a0universities, jobs, and amenities\u00a0and\u00a0was even rated the UK\u2019s\u00a0most liveable city<\/a>\u00a0in a\u00a02018 survey.<\/p>\n Many workers are moving out of London to\u00a0find\u00a0more affordable places to live, especially\u00a0in\u00a0northern cities\u00a0like Manchester.
