{"id":946,"date":"2016-09-04T07:00:45","date_gmt":"2016-09-04T06:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.buyassociation.co.uk\/?p=946"},"modified":"2016-09-04T07:00:45","modified_gmt":"2016-09-04T06:00:45","slug":"60000-build-rent-units-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/09\/04\/60000-build-rent-units-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 60,000 build-to-rent units in the UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In total, there are now 60,139 build-to-rent units in construction or in the pipeline across Britain, the British Property Federation revealed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Currently, 30,844 of them are located in London, accounting for one in five new housing starts, whilst the remaining 29,295 units are spread across the country.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/08\/29\/build-rent-overtaking-buy-let\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Build-to-rent<\/a> defines those units that are purpose-built for the private rental sector through funding from institutions, which will then go on to be professionally managed and let.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bpf.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The British Property Federation<\/a> has been one of the frontrunners in this area for some years and explained that &#8211; despite the recent growth &#8211; the sector still faces some difficulties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government\u2019s decision, announced in this year\u2019s Budget, to hit institutionally backed rental property with a three per cent SDLT surcharge is a setback to investment \u2013 both directly and through the message it sends to would-be investors\u201d says Duncan Salvesen, chair of the BPF residential board.<\/p>\n<p>For Salvesen, it\u2019s essential that the Government and local authorities back the sector rather than \u201cspook investors any further\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the coming year we will be engaging with new the Mayor, Sadiq Khan, and his willingness to engage with the industry on his housing policies is a positive starting point \u2013 although talk of rent controls has caused concern in the sector\u201d warns the BPF chair.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Build-to-rent construction in the UK.
