Flat sharing platform, ideal flatmate, recently analysed the cost of renting a room in the UK\u2019s largest cities.\u00a0In the\u00a0Room Rental Index<\/a>\u00a0for Q1\u00a0of\u00a02019,\u00a0the\u00a0platform looked at the\u00a0prices\u00a0of thousands of\u00a0single\u00a0rooms on its site\u00a0and examined the differing costs across the nation and how they have changed over time.<\/p>\n Tom Gatzen, co-founder of ideal flatmate, stated:\u00a0\u201cOutside of London, we\u2019re seeing strong regional growth in areas such as Leeds, Portsmouth, Liverpool and Glasgow and while they remain much more affordable, it demonstrates the diversity of the UK rental market and the growing pockets of popularity that stretch across it.\u201d<\/p>\n The average\u00a0cost to rent a single room in the UK\u00a0is\u00a0\u00a3535 per month, which is an 11% increase from Q1\u00a0of\u00a02018.\u00a0As expected,\u00a0London<\/a>\u00a0is the most expensive city to rent in\u00a0with an average monthly cost\u00a0of\u00a0\u00a3745.\u00a0The index also revealed the differing rental\u00a0prices\u00a0in each borough of London, which ranges\u00a0from\u00a0\u00a3585 in Havering to\u00a0\u00a31,167 in the City of London.<\/p>\n Out of the UK\u2019s top cities,\u00a0Leeds<\/a>\u00a0is the\u00a0fifth most expensive\u00a0to rent in\u00a0with\u00a0an\u00a0average room costing\u00a0\u00a3548\u00a0per month.\u00a0The majority of residents living in the city centre are in the private rental sector.<\/p>\n Demand for rental properties\u00a0is rising, and\u00a0Leeds City Council\u00a0has suggested there is room for\u00a020,000 more homes<\/a>\u00a0in the city centre\u00a0in order to keep up with that demand.<\/p>\n Having seen a revival in its\u00a0property and development industry<\/a>,\u00a0Leeds\u00a0is a major player in the Northern Powerhouse and\u00a0was\u00a0recently\u00a0named one of the\u00a0best places to live<\/a>\u00a0in the UK.\u00a0With new jobs and homes coming to the city,\u00a0the rental market in Leeds\u00a0is expected to grow even further.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Out of the UK\u2019s major cities,\u00a0Leeds has seen the largest growth\u00a0in rental\u00a0prices\u00a0both quarterly and yearly with costs up by 32% and 50% respectively.
