A new tool has launched which allows Britons to find out which towns and cities in the UK have the most lenient landlords when it comes to owning a pet. Out of 100 locations, Carlisle had the highest percentage of \u2018no pets allowed\u2019 properties (68%) and Belfast had the least (3%).<\/h3>\n

The online tool, Lets for Pets<\/a>, created by home interiors specialist www.hillarys.co.uk<\/a>, allows renting Britons who may be thinking of getting a pet to see where in the UK would be their best bet.<\/p>\n

The team created the site after finding that more than half of renting Britons (57%) want to get a pet but are currently unable to due to their landlord or letting agents\u2019 stipulations.<\/p>\n

Two fifths (41%) of these tenants said that they wanted a cat, 32% said they wanted a dog and the remaining 27% wanted a small pet e.g. a hamster or rabbit.<\/p>\n

When asked if they had approached their landlord about wanting a pet, 49% said they had, with 98% of these respondents revealing their request had been rejected.<\/p>\n

Following these findings, the team collected data on 100 towns and cities across the UK to find where Britons should move to if they want to own a pet in a rented property . The places where landlords were least likely to allow pets were found to be:<\/p>\n

  2. Newport \u2013 63%<\/li>\n
  3. Gloucester \u2013 62%<\/li>\n
  4. Nuneaton \u2013 57%<\/li>\n
  5. Falkirk \u2013 55%<\/li>\n
  6. Peterborough- 50%<\/li>\n
  7. Wakefield- 50%<\/li>\n
  8. Lincoln- 47%<\/li>\n
  9. Chesterfield- 46&<\/li>\n
  10. Hastings- 45%<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The locations where landlords were most likely to allow pets emerged as follows:<\/p>\n

    2. Reading \u2013%<\/li>\n
    3. Kingston-Upon-Thames \u20134%<\/li>\n
    4. Woking \u20134%<\/li>\n
    5. Oxford \u20136%<\/li>\n
    6. Southampton- 6%<\/li>\n
    7. Preston- 8%<\/li>\n
    8. Leicester- 8%<\/li>\n
    9. Newcastle- 8%<\/li>\n
    10. Manchester- 9%<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
