Leeds City Council<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>is hoping to\u00a0<\/span><\/b>double the nu<\/span><\/b>mber of bus journeys in 10 years<\/span><\/b>\u00a0and<\/span><\/b>\u00a0the number of homes in the city centre in the coming years<\/span><\/b>.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Last month Leeds City Council unveiled proposals to revolutionise bus travel in the city, in addition to a report<\/span>\u00a0revealing<\/span> that Leeds should expect a large rise in the number of homes in the city centre. <\/span>Reaching the council\u2019s goals regarding bus journeys and the number of\u00a0<\/span>houses<\/span>\u00a0will allow Leeds to keep up with demand<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0it\u2019ll also\u00a0<\/span>continue to\u00a0<\/span>transform<\/span><\/a>\u00a0the city.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Connecting Leeds<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Leeds City Council and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority<\/span>\u00a0drew up a new bus network plan for Leeds<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>that<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>has<\/span>\u00a0support from local bus operators First Leeds, Arriva Yorkshire, and Transdev.\u00a0<\/span>The plan<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>which is part of a wider transport strategy\u00a0<\/span>called Connecting Leeds,<\/span>\u00a0aims to improve\u00a0<\/span>traffic flow, air quality, pedestrian crossings, and cycle lanes, in addition to reducing congestion<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The proposals include giving<\/span>\u00a0priority to buses over cars on important routes into the\u00a0<\/span>city<\/span>\u00a0from Alwoodley, Bradford, and Oakwood and Roundhay. Changes to the busy roundabout Armley Gyratory were also included<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>The<\/span>\u00a0measures\u00a0<\/span>set forth would<\/span>\u00a0improve bus journey times and reliability<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With the potential to see 5,000 cars taken off the roads, the<\/span>\u00a0proposal is expected to\u00a0<\/span>help<\/span>\u00a0double the 250,000<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>bus trips made in\u00a0<\/span>Leeds<\/span>\u00a0on a daily basis<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>On top of that, it would free up more space on the roads and make\u00a0<\/span>journeys<\/span>\u00a0better<\/span>\u00a0for cyclists and pedestrians<\/span>\u00a0as well.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Councillor Judith Blake stated: \u201cLots of work is going on across the city and now we need to continue the transport conversation by talking in particular about enhanced bus services and what we need to do to make bus travel faster, more efficient, reliable, and cleaner. Looking at all aspects of a road network, we want to maximise the limited space we have so it is as efficient as possible.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Room for housing growth in Leeds<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

A<\/span>n additional<\/span>\u00a0report by Leeds City Council suggested there is room for\u00a0<\/span>20,000 more homes<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in the city centre.\u00a0<\/span>As<\/span>\u00a0demand\u00a0<\/span>continues<\/span>\u00a0to rise, the centre is an ideal area for additional houses and flats to be built.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>With close proximity to jobs and transport connections and the ability to reuse previously developed land, the city centre is one of the most sustainable locations in Leeds for new housing<\/a><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Even though there<\/span>\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>been a revival in the city\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>property and development industry<\/span><\/a>, there is still room for further growth.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>As Leeds sets to expand its\u00a0<\/span>transportation networks<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and housing market, the city will become an even more appealing place for people to live and invest in.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
