The think tank has managed to connect this drop with the number of children that weren\u2019t born as a result. In two decades, since 1996, it says 160,000 were not born due to young adults not being able to afford settling down.<\/p>\n<p>The trouble many couples are facing to get onto the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2018\/01\/23\/home-mover-deposits-now-exceed-100k-uk-for-first-time\/\">property ladder<\/a> has led them to either put off having a family entirely or have smaller ones.<\/p>\n<p>ASI calculated that whilst <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/07\/14\/britains-house-prices-increased-2-5-june\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">house prices have increased<\/a> by 10% in the time to 2014, birth rates have decreased by 4.9% among renters. For homeowners the numbers have only decreased by 2.8%.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Sabinsky was in charge of the think tank\u2019s paper and commented his findings:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe housing crisis is a well-known immediate economic problem, but this report showcases how it is wrecking the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/05\/04\/take-generation-rent-59-years-make-onto-property-ladder\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">lives of the people of this country<\/a>, preventing them from having the children they want to have.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;This private tragedy will, in the long-run, entail massive knock-on costs to public finances.
