The report points out that house prices have, over the same period of time, increased by 45% for first-time buyers.<\/p>\n<p>Buying a home is regarded one of the biggest challenges for many in the Aviva study. More than 30% of those aged 16 to 34 stated that they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/01\/10\/generation-rent-number-homeowners-aged-25-halved\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">never expected to ever own their home<\/a>, 21% assumed they would only own half of one when they inherit it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For those who were still hopeful to own their home one day, the average age of when they will do so was 31 years. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the same time, 47% of those currently residing at the Hotel of Mum and Dad said they were \u201cvery happy\u201d with the situation. Only 16% said their circumstance were making them unhappy. These numbers change when only looking at the older bracket of those aged 30 to 34 years old. Here, the number of those describing themselves as \u201cvery happy\u201d drops to 31% whilst \u201cunhappy\u201d increases to 28%.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"Xmimqntoe9\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/03\/27\/every-third-first-time-buyer-banks-mum-dad\/\">Every third first-time buyer banks with Mum and Dad<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Every third first-time buyer banks with Mum and Dad&#8221; &#8212; BuyAssociation Group\" src=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/03\/27\/every-third-first-time-buyer-banks-mum-dad\/embed\/#?secret=HcG6BhlvWb#?secret=Xmimqntoe9\" data-secret=\"Xmimqntoe9\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>When asked why they were living with parents, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/10\/21\/3-things-renters-do-to-save\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">financial reasons was the top answer<\/a> with 62% explaining they wouldn\u2019t be able to move out and 48% saying they were living with their family to save some money.<\/p>\n<p>Lindsey Rix is the managing director for personal lines at Aviva General Insurance and explained the findings in the report:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe challenges of getting on the property ladder are well publicised, but it\u2019s startling to see that one in three adults who live with parents expect never to own a property and further fifth believe the only way they will own a home is by inheriting one.<br \/>\nIf house prices continue to rise at their current rate, we can expect the proportion of adult children living with parents to grow even further.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The number of adults in the UK aged 25 to 34 and living with their parents has increased by 37% over the last decade, and it\u2019s only forecast to rise even more.
