Whilst Cameron\u2019s main intention was to turn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/01\/10\/generation-rent-number-homeowners-aged-25-halved\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Generation Rent into Generation Buy<\/a>, May\u2019s approach appears somewhat broader and sees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2017\/01\/23\/signs-hope-rental-market\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">the rental market<\/a> more as something that can add value to UK housing if done right.<\/p>\n<p>The scrapping of the letting agent fees which was announced during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/11\/30\/autumn-statements-impact-uks-property-market\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Philip Hammond\u2019s first Autumn Statement<\/a>, which was only Step 1 on a long journey to make renting a choice rather than a last option.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"UDIQ2CQ4B7\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/09\/22\/rising-age-generation-rent\/\">The rising age of Generation Rent<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;The rising age of Generation Rent&#8221; &#8212; BuyAssociation Group\" src=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/09\/22\/rising-age-generation-rent\/embed\/#?secret=teKsmjadxU#?secret=UDIQ2CQ4B7\" data-secret=\"UDIQ2CQ4B7\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Labour, however, expectedly called the proposal \u201cdisappointing\u201d as it falls far behind what is actually needed.<\/p>\n<p>City A.M reports Labour shadow secretary for housing, John Healey, stating:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Ministers continue to do next to nothing to help people who rent from a private landlord and have consistently blocked Labour&#8217;s attempts to change the law to control costs and give renters security.
