The average standard variable rate for a buy-to-let mortgage has seen the biggest month-to-month increase, with the cost of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2018\/06\/20\/lenders-revitalise-interest-only-mortgage-market-to-meet-borrower-needs\/\">interest-only<\/a> mortgage of \u00a3150,000 jumping from \u00a3603 to \u00a3650 per month.<\/p>\n<h4>Popular five-year fixes show an increase too<\/h4>\n<p>Five-year fixed rates have been increasingly popular with landlords with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2018\/09\/07\/landlords-seeking-better-deals-and-longer-term-financial-security\/\">long-term investment<\/a> strategy, and these too are showing the impact of the rate rise with monthly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2018\/09\/10\/london-landlords-hit-hardest-by-profit-dips-and-tax-changes\/\">repayments<\/a> increasing albeit slightly.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of an average five-year fixed rate loan for a customer looking to borrow 65% of the value of the property has increased from \u00a3348 per month to \u00a3350. Likewise, for a customer seeking 75% of the value of the property, there has been an increase from \u00a3423 per month to \u00a3425.<\/p>\n<p>Landlords have benefited from relatively <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2018\/08\/20\/property-investors-who-stick-out-hard-times-still-make-good-returns\/\">stable market<\/a> rates in recent months, but this slight increase in mortgage rates is the first sign that the trend is likely to continue upwards. Those sitting on a standard variable rate will have now seen a big jump in their monthly repayments, and many will be reevaluating their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2018\/08\/21\/no-landlord-exodus-as-huge-numbers-plan-to-stay-in-buy-to-let-for-life\/\">financial requirements<\/a>. Lenders are anticipating high demand for the few keenly priced fixed-rate mortgages still available, and borrowers are encouraged to secure a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2018\/08\/10\/landlords-encouraged-to-re-evaluate-mortgage-position-now\/\">new deal<\/a> before today\u2019s low rates disappear.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While landlords have felt the squeeze over the past year or so, mortgage rates have remained fairly competitive enabling them to access and secure low rate deals.
