Wages across the City vary so widely and property is in such great demand that the Government\u2019s announcement to put aside \u00a33.15bn to build 90,000 new homes in London has been greatly celebrated.<\/p>\n<p>Although it will take some time to actually feel the benefit, ultimately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/11\/02\/rentals-south-east-outperform-london\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">rents will drop below market value<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Affordable homes investment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although the term <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/11\/21\/number-affordable-homes-uk-continues-majestic-fall\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201caffordable homes\u201d<\/a> is often used in a rather wafty, undefined way, the \u00a31.4bn the current Government set aside to support this stream of property have overall been well received.<\/p>\n<p>This investment is expected to fund about 40,000 \u201caffordable homes\u201d. What this entails in more detail is, however, still rather unclear.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Letting agent fees<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The announcement of a ban of letting agent fees across England and Wales has probably been one of the biggest headlines of this year\u2019s Autumn Statement.<\/p>\n<p>The suspicion that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/11\/16\/high-street-agents-cashing-rising-rents\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">letting agencies<\/a> have been charging double by asking the tenant as well as the landlord to pay certain fees, isn\u2019t new to the market. Although the ban is currently under consideration it\u2019s worthwhile knowing that Scotland has banned the fees in 2012 and has experienced no impact on rental figures.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"E6dmr0WGuI\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/11\/22\/brits-housing-theresa-may-bye-bye-stamp-duty-infographic\/\">Brits, housing and Theresa May: Bye, bye Stamp Duty? [Infographic]&#8221; &#8212; BuyAssociation Group\" src=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/11\/22\/brits-housing-theresa-may-bye-bye-stamp-duty-infographic\/embed\/#?secret=MHtiMEihjL#?secret=E6dmr0WGuI\" data-secret=\"E6dmr0WGuI\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>No property tax reductions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over the last couple of years, the British Government has slowly but surely increased the costs of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/11\/03\/investing-in-property-here-are-5-things-worth-knowing\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">investing in property<\/a>. Whilst forecasts give grim pictures for a future in which property investment will be under constant attack (i.e. a potential \u00a310bn shortfall in London\u2019s property market due to a stamp duty rise), for now the Government seems unwilling to change its agenda.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whilst all of the above reads reasonable, the details (and time) are really the only indicators able to tell us whether <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/11\/24\/brexit-property-tax-autumn-statement-everything-need-know\/\">Philip Hammond\u2019s decisions<\/a> will actually improve the country\u2019s property market.
