Whilst rental costs average at \u00a32,475 a month, adding an extra room to the lost will bump a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/11\/02\/rentals-south-east-outperform-london\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Londoner\u2019s rental costs<\/a> up by about \u00a3845.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Only 25% of London\u2019s renters lash out and pay the extra bit for an additional room. And the story continues similarly across other cities in England\u2019s South with Bristol at 24%, Oxford at 28% and Cambridge at 27%.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Moving further up north, an additional room will only set you back \u00a3188 extra a month. Which is the main reason why tenants in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/09\/23\/manchesters-best-buy-let-postcodes\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Manchester<\/a>, Newcastle and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/10\/03\/top-10-property-investment-liverpool\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool<\/a> are twice as likely to get some extra luxury and an additional room.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"oEcpXUvcqX\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/11\/14\/buy-let-turns-give-build-rent-chance\/\">When buy-to-let turns on you, give build-to-rent a chance<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;When buy-to-let turns on you, give build-to-rent a chance&#8221; &#8212; BuyAssociation Group\" src=\"https:\/\/www.buyassociationgroup.com\/en-gb\/2016\/11\/14\/buy-let-turns-give-build-rent-chance\/embed\/#?secret=CCcrBAqNWb#?secret=oEcpXUvcqX\" data-secret=\"oEcpXUvcqX\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rents increasing by 13% since 2013 put additional pressure on tenants.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sacrificing extra bedrooms and sharing has helped renters to absorb higher prices,&#8221; says Johnny Morris, Director of Research at Countrywide.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But those living in the South are close to a point where there\u2019s not much more room to squeeze, meaning rental growth is likely to be capped by tenants incomes for some time.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Latest figures have revealed that only one in three tenants can afford to rent a home with a spare room, the lowest level on record.
