National housebuilder\u00a0<\/span>Persimmon<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span>has made the news for the right reasons after a run of bad publicity in recent months over problems caused from\u00a0<\/span>its new build\u00a0<\/span>housing<\/span>\u00a0and poor effort in handling buyers\u2019 complaints<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Persimmon recently announced that by the end of June 2019, it will have in place a new\u00a0<\/span><\/b>homebuyer\u2019s retention clause<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0 It claims that this is a new pioneering step within the construction sector.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The scheme will mean that as part of the buying contract, a maximum value of 1.5 per cent can be held back by the homebuyer\u2019s solicitor at the time of handing over the keys, until any snags or faults have been addressed<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>by the building site contractors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At present, the retention value is likely to stand at \u00a33,600 based on current selling prices<\/span><\/b>\u00a0and is part of a list of measures, the developer is introducing to improve its standard of customer car<\/span><\/b>e<\/span><\/b>.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aided by the government\u2019s help to buy initiative,\u00a0<\/span>Persimmon\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/i>annual profit has reached \u00a31.1bn,\u00a0<\/span>However, an excessive wave of customer complaints resulted in the housebuilder losing its<\/span>\u00a0Home Builders Federation four star award<\/span>\u00a0in 2014.\u00a0 This award is<\/span>\u00a0considered the minimum industry standard for customer satisfaction and five years on\u00a0<\/span>Persimmon<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span>has still to regain it.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Roger Devlin,\u00a0<\/span>Persimmon<\/span><\/i>\u00a0c<\/span>hairman, said: \u201cThis is a first among the UK\u2019s large housebuilders and I hope will lead the way in change across the sector.\u202f This move, and the urgency with which we will introduce it, is a clear and unambiguous signal of cultural and operational change at\u00a0<\/span>Persimmon<\/span><\/i>, putting customer care at t<\/span>he very centre of the business.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This latest initiative will have rival<\/span>\u00a0housebuilders<\/span>\u00a0watching carefully to see how successfully\u00a0<\/span>Persimmon\u00a0<\/span><\/i>tempts back buyers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
